Is Bladeless Cataract Surgery really better than standard Cataract Surgery?

YES!  Bladeless cataract surgery involves using a technologically advanced computer guided femtosecond laser to perform the most challenging and crucial steps of the procedure.  During the procedure, a 3-D scan of your eye is obtained and a customized surgical plan is designed by the surgeon.   Once all the specifications unique to your eye are obtained, the computer guides the laser to perform the steps of the procedure with the precision that cannot be matched by a human hand.  The laser creates the surgical incision, treats astigmatism ( irregularity of the surface of the eye), opens the lens capsule to allow access to the cataract and then breaks up the cataract for removal.  Using the laser to break up the cataract creates less trauma to the delicate ocular tissues which leads to less inflammation and swelling post operatively and therefore faster visual recovery.   All of these computer guided laser steps allow for a more precise placement of the lens implant.  The lens implants can be customized to your specific power and prescription to provide you with your personal best vision without glasses.
